Reliance Jio To Provide Free WiFi To College Students

Another freebies from Reliance Jio and this time the college student. Mukesh Amabani led Reliance Jio has announced that they would be providing free WiFi facilities to approx 38000 colleges in India. 

Colleges comprises of both  technical and non-technical colleges in the country.

Reliance Jio has already presented the free services presentation to Ministry of Telecom and Human Resource Development (HRD), Government of India and pending approval.


The universities that will be included within this plan are: Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University, Aligarh Muslim University, Jamia Milia Islamia University, Central University-Himachal Pradesh, Central University-South Bihar and Central University-Jammu.



Government is planning to float a tender in this regard to overcome any accusation of partiality. It will ensure transparency and fairness in the procedure.


The HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar, has already announced the launch of free Wi-Fi network to 38 universities that will come into effect from August 31 this year.

Through this free access to Wi-Fi, all students will be able to get internet connection and use educational resources such as online courses available on SWAYAM platform through the National Knowledge Network. The company plans to create hotspots for this.

Reliance Jio already had announced the cheapest low-cost 4G feature phone which provides free voice calling, SMS services and 500 MB of data per day at Rs 153 per month.
