Government dictate Telecom companies to re-verify their mobile subscribers with Aadhaar. All the telecom players in India needed to verify their subscriber with Aadhaar as per the order of supreme court of India.
This drive will cost additional Rs 1,000 crore to telecom companies at a time when companies are burdened with debt and fighting a tariff war within each other to stay live in competitive telecom market due to presence of Reliance Jio.
Linking mobile SIM with Aadhaar and re-verified via Aadhaar cards will root out those who have used fraudulent means to connections.
Now subscription of telecom will only be given on the basis of Aadhaar number. Subscriber who are not having any Aadhaar would not be able to get new SIM.
Reliance Jio is winner in this case as they introduce their SIM only with valid aadhaar.
Process of Re verification
For Aadhaar based re-verification, the telecom operator will have to send an SMS to a subscriber with a verification code after establishing that the SIM card is physically available with the person.
